Let me know if it continues to hold your interest. I saw one comment on Twitter about it that it had way too many characters to keep track of. There are a lot characters but I don't feel like there are too many to keep track of. It's the kind of show that you're not totally sure what is going on, but you're experiencing it 'real time' along with the robots and the people investigating why they are going off script and other storylines. Sir Anthony Hopkins is the co-founder of Westworld. He always speaks in that grandfatherly voice of his, but you wonder if his role might be more sinister then it seems. Nothing is wrapped up neatly at the end of an episode. Instead you have more questions. I think this show will take a commitment to patiently watch it unfold and evolve. There was book and movie prior to this. Maybe reading the book would help.

So here we are with a new season fully under way. What are your favorite new shows? Here are a few that made my list.
A Million Little Things - Right now, I think this is my favorite new show. This is about a group of friends who are suddenly having to deal with the suicide of the guy who was the rock of their group. They are struggling to find out why he committed suicide. Some are feeling guilty that they may have contributed to the reasons he did it and most are upset that as close as they were, no one knew he was even thinking about it. The relationships are complicated and realistic. I'm already invested in their stories.
The Rookie - NATHAN FILLION! Need I say more? Actually, I would be the first to say if I were disappointed in the show. This is an interesting concept based on a true story. Nathan is the oldest rookie (John Nolan) but we are also introduced to other rookies and their training officers. There are a lot of different personalities. Nolan's superiors are concerned about his age getting in the way. He's trying very hard but still has a lot to learn. I like this ensemble cast. So far I have only seen one episode, but I'm already hoping this gets a full season order.
God Friended Me - Brandon Hall stars as a young man (Miles Finer) trying to launch a podcast. His father is a pastor but Miles is an atheist. Then he gets a friend request (Facebook) from God. He tries to ignore it but it is insistent so he finally accepts it. Then God starts suggesting friends and again is very insistent. Miles discovers that the friends that are suggested need help and Miles (with God's help) is able to make a huge difference in their lives. Miles doesn't believe for a moment that the God account is real and he and his friends are actively trying to figure out who is behind it. I really enjoy this show. Brandon as Miles is extremely likable and has a good heart. I want to see more of his journey.
Magnum PI - I don't think it measures up to the original Magnum, but they have a fresh take on it. They didn't try to duplicate Tom Selleck but got a charming, handsome guy in Jay Hernandez. Higgins is now female. I like her but feel like she was drawn into Magnum's circle a little too quickly. Magnum and Higgins contentious relationship was a backbone of the show. I think they should have preserved more of it. However I really like the new Higgins and of course they can work a 'will they'/'won't they' angle if they want. I like this enough to keep watching it.
Manifest - This was interesting. A plane runs into a storm and when it lands, 5 years have gone by on earth. Everyone thought they were dead and moved on with their lives. In one case, a twin is now 5 years older than the other! Relationships are more complicated than normal and apparently some of the people from the plane are experiencing some mysterious after effects. I'm always leary about these kind of shows. You get drawn into the mystery then the show gets cancelled and you never find out what was really going on and feel like you just wasted your time. I only watched the 1st episode but have others on the DVR and will probably get around to them.
The Neighborhood - I notoriously don't like most sitcoms because they are just stupid. We watched a couple episodes of this and are still tuning in. A white family moves into a black neighborhood. The white husband is just trying too hard to make friends with his black neighbor who doesn't really want a white friend. Of course the wives bond right away and enjoy laughing at their husbands. It's kind of a cute show.

-I’m really enjoying A Million Little Things too. It sort of reminds me of the late ‘80s - early ‘90s hit, thirtysomething, in that it’s about the relationships of a group of friends, some married, some single. The suicide has given it an interesting twist to start with but I like how that’s been used as a spring board to delve into other character issues. I’ll definitely continue watching.
-I was hesitant going into The Rookie but I really do love it. My husband just told me it is his favorite new show this season. I’m loving all of the characters, not just John Nolan and I really like how each one of them has their own story arc. The second episode was even better than the first!
-I saw the pilot of God Friended Me and enjoyed it, but there are so many new shows on that I just haven’t gotten back to it.
-We’re also watching Manifest. So far, I’m enjoying the characters and the mystery. Like you said, this type of show can be a risk because you have to trust the writers have a clear end game for the mystery while still keeping the show going, but I really like the characters so far so I think I’m in for the long haul.
-New Amsterdam is the other new show that has us hooked. It's the competition for The Rookie but we watch it streaming the day after it airs. I didn’t want to like it because I’ve just felt rung out by medical shows but this one has a very different take on the hospital drama. It’s easy to root for these characters and I’m happy they don’t get too bloody with their injuries. That’s always a turn off for me and so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised by their restraint.
I haven’t watched the other shows you’ve mentioned and probably won’t. I wanted to check out Magnum but there are only so many hours in a day!

I watched New Amsterdam as well. I was turned off by the new medical director acting so irresponsibly by firing a whole department without speaking to any of them and having no backup plan and shutting down the waiting room because people will be looked at immediately. I'm not buying it. At the same time he is ignoring his own medical condition and ignoring his pregnant wife. I've only seen one episode, but my husband seems to like it so we will watch more. Maybe it will change my mind as the story develops.

I’ve been watching the new Magnum PI. I thought I wouldn’t like it but find it pretty entertaining with a rhythm similar to Castle.

I was told I needed to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. I finally got around to it a couple of days ago and so far I've seen 5 or 6 episodes. I love it! There is so much dialogue. I didn't think writers knew how to write comedy any more without smashing someone's face into a window or having smart-alecky kids make inappropriate adult comments. The writing is so smart. The star is amazing. I see why it won so many Emmys. It's based in the late 50s or early 60s and is so realistic. It also has a lot of good songs. Is anyone else watching it? What do you think of it?

My biggest guilty pleasure of the year is the Masked Singer! I thought it would probably be dumb, but after watching the first one I was hooked! Pigtails There were football players, comedians, talk show hosts, and professional singers. Even people whose voices I grew up listening to I couldn't recognize. Face Palm There were amazing costumes and so many amazing performances. My son was able to guess the winner, but I didn't even know who it was once his identity was revealed. The nice plus was this was something my son and I could enjoy together.

Fall 2019
Here’s my take on some of the new shows in 2019. Overall, I think it’s a pretty disappointing lot. I'm not excited about any of them. Is there a show you really like this year?
I probably shouldn’t judge on just one episode, but that’s all I’ve seen of all these shows.
Evil – Three people join together to investigate possessions and miracles. Two of the three are total skeptics and one is open to the possibilities. It was a little scary for a while which is not normally my cup of tea but I stuck with it and am quite intrigued and ready to watch the next episode.
Bluff City Law – A lady joins her estranged father’s law firm. They are at odds but she learns a few things there and he is impressed and proud of the job she is doing. I like Jimmy Smits but this felt like a tired retread of a story I’d seen before. I’ll probably watch a couple more episodes before I decide if it is a keeper.
Sunnyside – A formerly gung ho city councilman disgraces himself and loses his job. Desperate for a job, he decides to help some misfits become US citizens. I like Kal Penn but only made it thru half an episode.
Stumptown – A tough army vet is talked into tracking down a missing girl. Cobie Smulders plays Dex who suffers from PTSD and is taking care of her Down Syndrome brother. She forges a loose partnership with a detective played by Michael Ealy. Thought I would like it more but worth another look.
Prodigal Son – The son of a serial killer is still affected by the crimes of his father and apparently has some of his father’s mind which he uses to try to put away other killers. He loses his job with the FBI but starts working with the police when a serial killer copycats his father. Mentally he seems to be just barely hanging on. Lou Diamond Phillips is the cop that has known Malcolm most of his life. Michael Sheen plays the evil father. Tom Payne plays Malcolm. I liked this more than my husband and can’t wait to see more.
Carol’s 2nd Act – This is the oldest rookie for doctors. Patricia Heaton plays an older intern who decided to become a doctor after her divorce. This is a comedy. Carol can’t contain her excitement, but her life experience makes her good at her job if she can just be taken seriously. I enjoyed it.
The Unicorn – Wade is trying to hold things together after his wife dies leaving him to raise 2 daughters. Friends and family talk him into dating after a year. He’s shocked at the huge number of responses he gets on the dating app. His friends explain he is a unicorn – a responsible, committed, employed, and attractive guy. This was OK. I’ll watch more but won’t be surprised if I lose interest.
All Rise – Lola is a newly appointed judge who wants to make a difference and isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers to do what she thinks is right. It seemed a little chaotic at times but was pretty good.

I like your assessments.
I’ve only seen part of the pilot of Evil. I was leery because I’m not a fan of scary shows, although I found George, the demon, more amusing than scary. As a general skeptic who likes to keep an open mind, I’m drawn to this concept. Also, I’m a fan of Mike Colter, who plays David. I was able to interview him a couple of times when he was on The Good Wife and he came across as intelligent, talented, and just plain nice. All things considered I’ll probably watch the first few episodes and see if the show is more intriguing than scary.
I completely agree with you about Bluff City Law. I like Jimmy Smits but this has a been there/done that kind of vibe and there just aren’t enough spare hours in the day to get me to keep watching.
I plan to check Stumptown for Cobie Smulders but haven’t gotten around to it yet and I doubt I’ll have the time to watch Prodigal Son.
I saw the premiere of All Rise and it was better than I expected. It’s a little idealistic but I liked the characters and the stories. I won’t call it must see as of yet, but it was definitely enjoyable.
I don’t generally watch too many comedies. (Modern Family, Young Sheldon, and The Conners are about it.) So I doubt I’ll check out Carol’s 2nd Act but I might take a look at The Unicorn. I’ve always liked Walton Goggins and this is a very different role for him.
I was recently on a plane and caught the premiere of Perfect Harmony with Bradley Whitford. The commercials didn’t sell me but I found the pilot episode sweet, charming, and funny. I’m actually looking forward to seeing more.

I'm also a fan of Mike Colter. He is charming and handsome! I don't know the female lead but I liked her. I found George more terrifying than you. I think a lot of that was because Kristen was paralyzed when he appeared.
I just watched Perfect Harmony. I'm not really a Bradley Whitford fan and wouldn't have watched it except my husband recorded it. He really liked it. I admit it was better than I expected. The choir did great and in my opinion, doesn't really need him.
I think you should try The Prodigal Son. It and Evil are my favorites out of this crop.

So out of this crop of 2019-20 TV shows the only ones I stuck with were Prodigal Son and Carol's Second Act. I just watched the season finale of Prodigal Son. It was SHOCKING! Is anyone else watching this show?? If so what did you think?
Another shocking season finale occurred in The Good Doctor. It might even affect if I continue watching.
We just started watching the new show The Baker and the Beauty. A regular guy (the baker) runs into a high profile star and they hit it off. We've seen 2 episodes and really enjoy it so far. We really like the cast.
Anybody got any recommendations for new shows?

Yes I was not happy with the ending of the Good doctor either. I never started watching Prodigal Son and I didn't care for Carol's second act. I got a free month of CBS so I watched Picard and 2 seasons of Star Trek Discovery. I also never watched The Good Wife so I binged 7 season of that. It was an amazing show. How did I miss that? Three more days before my free month is up. I have been watching season 1 of MacGyver. Also I watch the shows I like on CBS without commercials for a few more days.

We watched the Good Wife from the start and really enjoyed it. There are so few shows that we both really like now.
I only watched the original Star Trek and never got into any of the other versions.

I've been hearing good things about The Baker and the Beauty and hope to check it out soon.
My family started watching the new Magnum P.I. from the beginning (it's on season 2 right now.) My husband loved the original but I was never a huge fan. Well, the new one is much better than I expected. It's a fun, adventure show with good character development. The new Magnum is pretty darn cute, I like this new T.C. and Rick more than the originals, and my daughter loves Juliette Higgins. Also, Detective Kasumoto is played by Tim Kang who played one of my favorite characters on The Mentalist so it's good to see him again. And there isn't much that can beat the backdrop of Hawaii!
