Here’s my assessment of some of the new shows for 2021.
Ordinary Joe – I’m really pulling for poor James Wolk to finally have a successful series. This one sounded really interesting. What if you took a different path in life? Joe’s graduation day set the course for his life. He had 3 possibilities for that day and this show explores each of those possibilities. Joe became a rock star, a police officer, and a doctor. At certain points in time, we see how Joe is affected in each of his professions and relationships. Unfortunately, the constant jumping around between his various lives is annoying and at times confusing. I’ll try more episodes but not convinced we’ll stick with this.
La Brea – A huge sink hole opens up in LA. The people who fall in seem to be in some weird prehistoric time. Frankly, I’m sick of these kinds of shows, similar to Manifest. You get drawn into it to figure out what happened, then the show ends abruptly, and you wasted a couple of years. There was nothing appealing about this to either of us.
The Big Leap – The highlight of this year. The blurb for this said something about a reality dance show. Neither one of us was really interested but decided to watch anyway. OMG, this was really good! The show follows a diverse group of people who decide to try out for a reality dance show which culminates with a live performance of Swan Lake. The characters are relatable, and you’re immediately involved in their stories and want to see what happens. I guess I would kind of compare it to Glee but I didn't like Glee but so far love this.
FBI, Intl – We didn’t like the original FBI but tried this one. It was dark dealing with sex trafficking. We weren’t interested in any of the characters or the storyline.
NCIS, Hawaii – Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) is in charge of the Pearl Harbor NCIS station. I enjoyed her but can’t even remember the storyline and no other characters impressed me. I may try another episode, but this is probably a ‘no go’.
Ghosts – This a cute show. A girl inherits a old mansion that has been in her family for generations. Unfortunately, it is occupied by quite a few ghosts who aren’t excited about her and her husband turning the house into a B & B. The wife falls and hits her head and can suddenly see the ghosts. The ghosts are from various generations and include a Viking, an Indian, A contemporary of Alexander Hamilton who is jealous of him, a speakeasy singer and a boy scout leader. Rose McIver stars and I love her anyway. I’ve only seen 1 show so hope it can keep me interested.
