Spoilers Ahead
This was a fantastic season premiere. The beginning was intense as the team watched the video of Angela and Jackson getting kidnapped and then Jackson getting shot. Nolan, Harper, Chen, and Bradford are reeling and Grey feels as though he lost a son, but they have a job to do & have to hold it together.
It turns out La Fiera wants to keep Lopez until her baby is born and then keep the baby and kill her.
When the DEA refuses to help, Wesley has to strike a deal with a bad guy to become a dirty lawyer for him in order to find out Lopez' whereabouts. He gathers the gang together & asks them to help him rescue Lopez. Grey agrees but before they dive in, he tells Nolan that he is now a P2, no longer a rookie. Bradford, Nolan, & Harper work on the rescue plan while Grey and Chen pursue the guy that shot Jackson. When Gray finds the guy he is almost overcome by emotions of grief and revenge. He keeps his head and arrests the guy instead of killing him which was his gut reaction.
The team decides to bring in "Max" who has some connection to the Defense Dept running covert operations. He helped them out before in return for not getting outed. When Nolan opens his door to a strange guy he says, "Where's Max?". The guy replies, "We're all Max." Max supplies them with transportation in and out of Guatemala, vehicles, guns, ground drone, etc, etc.
Their plans aren't totally working out so Wesley injects Lopez with Pitocin to induce labor so they can get her out of La Fiera's fortress and into the hospital where they can rescue her. Unfortunately Wesley is sent off with others while Angela is taken to the hospital. Nolan has to follow Wesley even though he will likely miss the return helicopter. He follows them to the orchard and jumps the girl as she's about to shoot Wesley. He struggles to take her out even though she's half his size but finally overpowers her, saves Wesley, and catches the chopper just in time.
The team had a little party when Angela and Wesley brought the baby home from the hospital 3 months later. Angela was very moved and obviously considers them extended family. She demonstrated how the baby can sleep through anything. It made me wonder if later on, they will discover that the baby is deaf. Later, she visits Jackson's grave and has a very emotional conversation with him. Apparently it's a routine thing as she keeps him up-to-date on what's happening. Oh and of course you know what they named the baby.
There is no pretending that any of this is remotely realistic, but it is definitely entertaining. It would be more realistic if they were some kind of government undercover squad, but I'm willing to overlook all of that in the name of entertainment. I really think there is a lot of great acting in this show.
So what is this season going to bring?
-Wesley & Angela will be dealing with a newborn
-The whole team is dealing with Jackson's loss
-Nolan is no longer a rookie. Will he be a TO or is there another spot for him?
-Tim & Lucy had a moment together that possibly could have turned into more if they hadn't gotten called
-As they escaped the hospital, Angela shot La Fiera. She seemed dead, but maybe she will come back to life in another episode.
-and of course the elephant in the room is the fact that Wesley has promised to become a dirty lawyer working for a bad guy. Will he tell Angela? Will this drive a wedge between them? Can the team get him out of this?
Lots of angst to come and hopefully some humor too. Stay tuned.
