This was a sad episode. The opening moments are usually humorous but Nolan shows up at a traffic accident. The woman is mortally wounded with a fence post through her middle. Nolan tries to comfort her, but she's concerned that her husband will be upset that she wrecked the car and is worried that her kid's popsicles are melting in the trunk. Nolan holds her hand as she slips away. At least she didn't die alone. She's an organ donor so they rush her to the hospital so other lives can be saved. That's where the main plot starts. A young girl arrives at the hospital finally scheduled to receive the heart she so desperately needs, but the hospital's network has been taken over by a man who is determined to give his wife her last chance at life. He intends to hold the hospital hostage until they give his wife the heart. The wife agrees to talk to the girl who should have gotten the heart and changes her mind and decides to let the girl have the heart after all. The husband is devastated but tries to restore the hospital but isn't able to because his partners were just in it to get a ransom. Of course the LAPD saves the day.
Life is complicated but never so much as when you desperately need an organ transplant to live and the only way you can get that is for someone else to die. I'm sure that's all the family can think about is if they will get that call in time while they watch their loved one dying.
The secondary storyline was about a boy who was kidnapped as a toddler and never knew his parents weren't his real parents. They were found out and arrested when he needed medical attention. The boy was crushed wanting to go home with his parents and not wanting to have to go to the people who are his actual parents that he doesn't even know.
Lucy was forced to relive her most traumatic moment when she was buried in the barrel. When she found out her ADA friend had watched the video of her in the barrel, she felt she needed to see it too. It was difficult for her but I think she realized just how strong she was to have survived it. She seems to keep getting closer to the ADA guy.
Pretty heartbreaking episode but very good.
