I may be the only one that cares but on Sunday, 1 out of every 1000 people in the US will be attending the Indy 500! Isn't that wild? Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

You're not the only one! I'm a race fan too. Unfortunately I won't be home Sunday afternoon but will most likely record both the Indy 500 and the Nascar Coco-Cola 600. That's a lot of racing to watch.

I hope you girls don’t get dizzy watching those cars go ‘round and ‘round (and ‘round)!! Then again, I’m an NBA and tennis fan and when I watch them play (in person or on TV), my head goes side to side, side to side... Not much different I suppose! HAHA!!

lala, I've been watching racing for about ten years. Before that I couldn't figure out what people saw in it. Wasn't it just cars going around in a circle? Then I watched this behind the scenes show about Nascar and learned about the drivers, the teams and the strategies and I was hooked.

I bet that was an interesting show! I love “behind the scenes” stories. Well, except for maybe one! ::cough:: Castle ::cough:: LOL
I know that racing is a multi, multi-million dollar business and I can imagine a lot goes into the preparation for the driver and the pit crew. I know the crew is really very important…they can be the difference between a win or loss for the driver. And I know the endorsements (i.e. financial backers) are a key factor as well, which is why they have all those stickers plastered all over their cars! Heh.
Hope you guys enjoy the race! Do you have a favorite driver that you’re hoping will win?

It's the 100th running of the Indy 500 and is the first time it's been sold out in more than 20 years. Should be an exciting event.

And I thought I was probably the only racing fan on this board!!!! Love Indy Car (and Helio) and NASCAR (Jeff Gordon fan but he's retired).
Sunday is a huge day for racing fans -- you can start early in the morning with Formula 1's Grand Prix of Monaco (bucket list item that will never be fulfilled), then the 100th Indianapolis 500, and then the Coca Cola 600. That's a lot of racing!
There's a photo out there somewhere of Nathan at one of the races -- thinking Indy 500 -- sunglasses on and lanyard around his neck. I remember that much!!

Whatever car Jeff was driving back then, Monte Carlo?, my husband ran the plant that built them. (It's horrible that I don't remember what kind of car it was lol) Anyway, Jeff came to the plant to drive the very first new Monte Carlo (?) off the line. He was there all day and everyone had great things to say about him. Indy cars don't really interest me but I love watching Nascar. If you've never to been to one, it's the loudest thing you'll ever experience!!

I was a Jeff fan years ago and then when he won so much I decided to pick a new up and coming driver. Well, I picked Jimmie Johnson -- and then when he won over and over and over, I went back to Jeff. Several years ago I went to Talladega -- what an experience that was. Have never heard anything so loud as those cars coming out of turn 4 running 3 or 4 wide for the first lap. Unbelievable. If you ever went to an Indy race you would love it too. My friend and I had pit and garage passes for a road race (easier to get than NASCAR) and we actually stood in Helio's pit during practice. I leaned against the stack of tires until they were needed. We talked to the crew members, etc. So much fun -- but I felt like a groupie. An old groupie, at that!
