Since he is one of the executive producers he will be able to dictate his screen time. I’m thinking a 3 day work week with no more than 12 hrs a day?
I am surprised he is jumping back into a series also. Maybe he was told he needs to do more while he is still able? If you stay away too long people forget you?

This may burst my bubble for him becoming part of the DC or Marvel universe!
I hope this series doesn't have him playing the bumbling butt of all jokes like Castle devolved into.

Dictating how much time he works is not part of an EPs job duties. Mariska Hagarity is an EP on Law and Order SVU and she is on most of the episode. "He needs to do more while he is still able" You make him sound geriatric. No people do not forget you. Look at "Will and Grace" It had been off the air for 12 years. Comes back with the same cast and it is doing great in the ratings. I read the comments about the show and his biggest problem may be there are people who are still convinced he was responsible for Katic's firing. When I first saw the title I instantly thought good grief another reboot.

Maybe it will be like the Orville and have a 10 episode season.

Maybe it will be like the Orville and have a 10 episode season. Not on ABC, especially for a show they have high hopes for.

At this point I don't care what project he's doing, I just want to see him on my TV. And something weekly sounds perfect to me. Unless I read it wrong, Michelle will also be a producer. What a great opportunity for her. It shows again just how loyal Nathan is to his friends. I think a lot of us felt that ABC wanted to keep him -- just a matter of finding the write project. Excited!!!!!

Inspired by a true story, “The Rookie” follows John Nolan (Fillion), the oldest rookie in the LAPD. At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.
Alexi Hawley will write and executive produce. Fillion will also executive produce with The Mark Gordon Company’s Mark Gordon and Nicholas Pepper, along with Michelle Chapman and Jon Steinberg. The Mark Gordon Company will produce in association with ABC Studios.
Fillion previously starred in the ABC procedural “Castle” for its eight season run on the network, on which Hawley was a writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Fillion is also well known for his role on the cult classic sci-fi series “Firefly” and the film continuation “Serenity.” He has also appeared on shows like “Santa Clarita Diet,” “Modern Family,” and “Desperate Housewives.” Hawley also created the series “State of Affairs” and worked on shows like “The Following” and CBS’ “Training Day” series.
Fillion and Hawley are repped by CAA. Fillion is also repped by Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer, while Hawley is also repped by The Shuman Company and attorney Adam Kaller.

The fact that this is going straight to series says very loudly that he was not the problem on Castle. Networks do not want to deal with problematic temperamental abusive people.

I would bet that everyone involved in Castle would be dying to be involved with The Rookie except for one person. I’m also hoping that Luke won’t be invited back.

Ditto on not wanting Luke back! I'm kind of shocked that Michelle would be hired to be a producer. I get that she pretty much produces his life but I never thought that she had any actual cred in the business. I thought she was just a personal organizer. I presume Nathan offered them as a package deal and I think it's wonderful that it worked out. Michelle has been totally dedicated to him and he's always appreciated and praised her. They work really well together and can make things happen!

His post Castle career seems to be going pretty well IMO and I think she plays a part in that.

I'm really curious to hear announcements on other cast members. Hoping for some great people. Also hoping for some of the really good Castle directors, but most of all some great writers. I think the fact that this is co-produced with the Mark Gordon Company is a good thing too. They have a good history with ABC.

Will he be married with kids? or maybe divorced? If he's not married, he could have an occasional love interest. I'm assuming there won't be someone in the main cast that he will be interested in, but who knows? I'm definitely hoping for great writers, cast and stories. When they say 'going straight to series' does that mean that they just bought the concept with Nathan attached without a pilot or what exactly does it mean?

I think the usual mode is to make a pilot and then try to sell it to one of the networks. I believe straight to series is basically you have an idea, an outline and script. No pilot required. They take it based on how good the concept and script are. If I remember correctly David Boreanez new show went straight to series. Having a star with name recognition is a big factor. I am guessing he spent time in the service. They will take a year off your age for every year you serve up to certain amount.
