Here's my review of The Rookie pilot for TV Fanatic. I really wasn't sure if I was going to like this show given how horrible the last season of Castle was, but I was pleasantly surprised.
If you've seen the episode, I'd love it if you could grade it at the poll at the end of the review. Thanks!

Where's all the chatter about The Rookie? There has not been much chatter about much of anything lately. As for me I watched I really liked thought it was well done and well acted. I was hoping it would do better in the ratings but it had an awful lead-in. But I guess it did good if you consider " New Amsterdam" lost 3Million viewers and the "Rookie gained about the same amount.. BTW the 2 links you put over on the thread do not work.

I watched and enjoyed the show but the issue for me is that I just don't enjoy watching tension, action and violence, especially right before bedtime. I'm more of a warm, fuzzy viewer. -LOL I've been watching New Amsterdam in that time slot and have decided to continue with that for live viewing and watch The Rookie via delayed viewing earlier in the day. Having said all of that, I thought the characters on The Rookie were very interesting and well acted. There was a lot of groundwork laid for future story lines and I think I'll enjoy seeing things revealed and filled out. I really liked the way they showed the value of an older perspective in some situations and I also liked the way John Nolan stood up and defended his decision to become a cop, declaring that he earned this. Even though I don't watch other cop shows, I think this is a fresh and different perspective as Nolan tries to follow procedure and yet follow his own instincts based on his life experiences. And THEN, of course, there's Nathan looking so incredibly fit and HOT coming to me every week again!!!! Life is good!

I really enjoyed the pilot. What’s even better, my husband enjoyed it too, so we will be watching each week. I love the large cast—everyone seems like able even if they were trying not to be. Nathan looks really great.

I could have sworn I posted my thoughts on the pilot but I don't see it now. I know I posted elsewhere. I was on vacation when it aired so watched it a week later.
I saw it and really enjoyed it. You knew he would take a lot of crap because of his age but in the end he bonded with the other rookies. I loved that they went out for karaoke afterwards. That's one thing I always wished Castle had done, everyone going out together after a long day. Of course I'm a huge Nathan fan, but I truly liked the whole concept and Nathan's character. He's a good guy that wants his life to have meaning. He's trying his best but still has a lot to learn.
I really like Afton and am happy to say I really like her character. She is tough but fair and even though she has an ulterior motive for Nolan to do well (she's ambitious), I think she truly wants to help him succeed. I'm also a fan of Richard T Jones. He's not happy with Nolan but I think he will come around. I like the others but they didn't stand out as much to me.
They covered a lot of ground in the pilot. We got Nolan's backstory, met other rookies and their superiors. We saw Nolan and the other rookies deal with tough situations. Nolan had to deal with a death on his watch and also saved a child's life. It was all very well done. Of course, the main thing in any show is getting invested in the characters. I'm already interested in their stories and looking forward to more.
